A pure expression of rich, bold, and densely packed Cabernet that’s reminiscent of great wines from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Opus One, and To-Kalon. And it’s no wonder, Mario Bazan grew the grapes for those great wines for many years, and his winemaker David DeSante, is a Mondavi vet with a specialty in the Stag’s Leap style. Bazan’s RAMA rarely gets out of the Valley with a tiny production but when it pops up, the cases start to fly- Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at this quality and price isn’t common.
About the wine
Made by ace Napa Valley winemaker David DeSante, Bazan’s fabled growing skills are on full display in this pure, classic Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from the excellent 2014 vintage. It’s a young wine that shows tremendous growth potential in the cellar. New French oak gives the wine a generosity and texture that’s flat-out decadent. Black cherries, black currants, licorice, cedar, oak toast, graphite, cocoa dust, and loam - all the fixings for a top notch Napa Valley Cab! Serve it from a carafe, and let it aerate on the fly to allow the hedonistic styling to really shine.

About the winery
The roots of Mario Bazán Cellars go back to 1973 when Mario immigrated to the Napa Valley. When Mario arrived in the Napa Valley, he was immediately charmed by its beauty and energized by the vigorous wine-growing atmosphere he observed. He continued to hone his skills over the next four decades. Today, Mario has his own estate vineyard and highly regarded vineyard management company farming nearly one thousand acres throughout Napa and Sonoma Valleys.
About the vineyards
From Coombsville to Calistoga, Bazan is in demand for his vineyard management. For his own wines, he draws from his family vineyard in the Atlas Peak foothills, as well as a few tons of Oakville Cab that cannot be disclosed. Bazan is a classicist in the vineyard, in the sense that he’s been growing Cabernet for the most cherished blue-chip labels in the Napa Valley for the past 30 years. His own Cabernet reflects a classic character, never overripe, with good tannins, structure, and richness
About the winemaker, David DeSante
Mario Bazan met winemaker David DeSante when DeSante was a making wine at Robert Mondavi at the time that Mario was managing the Mondavi‘s legendary To Kalon and Opus One vineyards. DeSante then had a great run at S.Anderson (now Clif Lede) where he made brilliant estate sparkling wines and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stag’s Leap District.

"Expressive and charming, with lush fruit-forward notes, chocolatey depths, and velvety tannins, this Cabernet Sauvignon is delicious right out the gate. Aromatics of black raspberry, blueberry jam, chocolate-dipped cherries, toasted baking spices, vanilla and cedar are mirrored on the palate to great effect. Enjoy in the near term or hold on as it develops more earthy complexity. Medium bodied with balanced structure, this lovely Cab will pair very well with grilled steak, roasted duck breast, or barbecued chicken."
